They can hold you responsible for achieving your career goals.

Our team has extensive experience and training in helping people manage their work and career-based issues, including advice and guidance, essential skills for work, leadership and management, personal development, and employability. You can receive our training via a variety of methods, including online learning with tutor support, face-to-face sessions, or virtual classroom via Microsoft Teams or Zoom.

We can help to understand YOU! your foundation, and the values that motivate you. Then we can show you how to succeed. We are not a career service. Therefore, we won’t ask for you to complete questionnaires that assess your character as we are focused on solutions that will enable you to achieve YOUR goals.

1. Create your own luck!
I am a great believer in ‘Planned Happenstance’. Have you ever asked someone how they turned an idea into a business opportunity? Or how they landed a great job? And the reply has been about a chance event that led to where they are today?
That is exactly what happened to me when I made my career change (from Capacity and Resilience Advisor to Career Coach) Those events occurred because I was proactive in following my curiosity and developing skills. I took part in voluntary opportunities, attended free classes, explored my ideas with others, learned from other people’s experiences. In this way you are putting yourself on the path to greater opportunities.

2. Stop trying to find the ‘perfect’ job!
You don’t need to be head over heels in love with your job! It’s ok to realise that you are unhappy with what you are doing or that it is a steppingstone to your desired career choice. Make sure you are in the right mindset when changing your career path. We can bog down by thinking you will be happy when you find that ‘perfect’ job. We think there is only one solution or one option. This just puts too much pressure on ourselves as we fear making a mistake. But remember there are lots of options in the way of the ‘right’ job and what feels right for you now but in a few years, you feel differently, and that is ok. Having this mindset makes you feel less fearful of the choices you make.

3. Be a ‘good leaver’
Sometimes a role or manager creates a situation that is impossible to stay, and it is time to move on. As tempting as it is to burn your bridge as you walk out, its almost never a good idea. Your path may cross with a former colleague or manager, and they remember your ‘leaving performance’! Leaving on good terms not only leave the door open in case your new job is not what you thought it would be but also enables you to have a positive mindset moving forward.

*‘Planned Happenstance’, is a career theory developed by Professor John Krumboltz of Stanford University. It asks you to focus less on having specific plans for your future and more about finding opportunities in unplanned events. Krumboltz theory suggests we actively embrace the up-and-down nature of our careers. Instead, he says we should look for opportunities in the unexpected and do things which fit our natural strengths and interests. It’s about being responsive to the twists and turns of life.
